WHAT IS POWDER COATING?
Powder coating is a durable polyester decorative coating that is applied with an electrostatic gun. It is applied after preparation and pre-treatment to thickness of 50 to 80 microns. Once coated it is baked/cured in an oven at 200 degrees for approx. 20 minutes. Once cooled the finish is hard and ready for use.
IS POWDER COATING A PROTECTIVE COATING?
No, it is a highly durable decorative finish. Corrosion protection can be provided by either chemical pre-treatment or Zinc rich and Epoxy powder primers.
This preparation is provided prior to the application of the final colour.
WHAT MATERIALS CAN BE COATED?
All types of metal substraights including:
Mild steel
Pre galvanised steel
Aluminium
Hot dipped Galvanising(HDG)
Cast aluminium and iron
Stainless steel
Zinc and galvabond sheet
Brass and copper
HOW SHOULD I PREPARE MY ITEMS BEFORE COATING?
All plastics, wiring, seals ( anything that will melt) must be removed.
Provide drainage holes in sealed hollow sections.
Tape any treads that you don’t want painted.
WHAT SIZE ITEM CAN I COAT?
We have 2 ovens:
1 for long items (like pipe) 0.6m W x 6.7m L x 1.8m H
1 for large bulky items (like ute trays) 2.4m W x 9.4m L x 2.8m H
